The Lisbon Volleyball would like to thank everyone who supported the September 22, 2020, Spike Out Childhood Cancer Game, Volley for Melina. A total of $5,325 was raised and is being donated to the Melina Michelle Edenfield Foundation.
Melina Edenfield was the daughter of Lisbon DAHS Principal, Keith Edenfield. Melina was diagnosed with a brain tumor on May 22, 2020, and passed away June 24, 2020. The game was played in her honor and to raise awareness about childhood cancer.
For Lisbon senior and volleyball player, Julia Leko, Melina was a regular part of her high school career.
“She was at all of our homecomings and dances and stuff, we always got to see her,” said Julia Leko, Lisbon Senior Volleyball Player.
The Lisbon Volleyball Team sold around 200 special shirts for the game, which was against United Local. United Local’s team also wore Volley for Melina shirts.
“It just shows how even though we are not in the same community, it just says a lot that we come together,” said Maddy Wrask, Lisbon Volleyball Coach
Local business, families and community members also donated baskets for a Chinese Auction, which was held across the street from the high school on game night and before a home football game. All proceeds are going directly to Melina Michelle Edenfield Foundation.
